For the identity operator I on X and a quotient operator Q: Z → Y, in this paper we investigate conditions under which I ⊗ Q and Q ⊗ I are again quotient operators on the respective tensor product spaces. Let J ⊂ X be a closed subspace. For the quotient injective tensor product space (X ˆ⊗ɛ Y )/(J ˆ⊗ɛ Y ), we consider several geometric properties of Banach space X and J under which this quotient space is isometric to (X/J) ˆ⊗ɛ Y . Quotients of tensor product spaces

The delivery of mechanical power, a crucial component of animal motion, is constrained by the universal compromise between the force and the velocity of its constituent molecular systems. While the mechanisms of force generation have been studied at the single molecular motor level, there is little understanding of the magnitude of power that can be generated by folding proteins. Here, we use single-molecule force spectroscopy techniques to measure the force-velocity relation of folding titin domains that contain single internal disulfide bonds, a common feature throughout the titin I-band. We find that formation of the disulfide regulates the peak power output of protein folding in an all-or-none manner, providing at 6.0 pN, for example, a boost from 0 to 6,000 zW upon oxidation. This mechanism of power generation from protein folding is of great importance for muscle, where titin domains may unfold and refold with each extension and contraction of the sarcomere. Eckels et al. use single-molecule magnetic tweezers to simultaneously probe the folding dynamics of titin Ig domains and monitor the redox status of single disulfides within the Ig fold. Oxidation of the disulfide bond greatly increases both the folding force and the magnitude of power delivered by protein folding. © 2019 The Authors

Third-party Audit and Tax Compliance–Evidence from a Notched Policy in India

Motility and phagocytosis are the two important processes that are intricately linked to survival and virulence potential of the protist parasite Entamoeba histolytica. These processes primarily rely on actin-dependent pathways, and regulation of these pathways is critical for understanding the pathology of E. histolytica. Generally, phosphoinositides dynamics have not been explored in amoebic actin dynamics and particularly during phagocytosis in E. histolytica. We have explored the roles of PtdIns(4,5)P2 as well as the enzyme that produces this metabolite, EhPIPKI during phagocytosis. Immunofluorescence and live cell images showed enrichment of EhPIPKI in different stages of phagocytosis from initiation till the cups progressed towards closure. However, the enzyme was absent after phagosomes are pinched off from the membrane. Overexpression of a dominant negative mutant revealed a reduction in the formation of phagocytic cups and inhibition in the rate of engulfment of erythrocytes. Moreover, EhPIPKI binds directly to F and G-actin unlike PIPKs from other organisms. PtdIns(4,5)P2, the product of the enzyme, also followed a similar distribution pattern during phagocytosis as determined by a GFP-tagged PH-domain from PLCδ, which specifically binds PtdIns(4,5)P2 in trophozoites. Novel regulatory roles of PtdIns(4,5)P2 generating enzyme EhPIPKI in actin dynamics and phagocytosis of Entamoeba histolytica

We consider the relationship between inequality and the business cycle. Empirical evidence suggests mutual causality between GDP and inequality over the business cycle and the countercyclical nature of inequality. We construct an evolutionary game-theoretic model with two types of workers to explain these observations. Cognitive workers produce capital of varying quality, which determines the productivity of physical workers who obtain the capital through an exogenous search process. We apply the logit dynamic to the model. The model satisfies positive definiteness due to which, both GDP and inequality converge to limit cycles and, therefore, fluctuate over time. These cyclical fluctuations have a common origin in the underlying evolutionary dynamic process, which explains the empirical observation of mutual causality between these variables. Further, simulations suggest an inverse relationship between GDP and inequality in our model, which accounts for the countercyclical nature of inequality.

A limit cycle view of inequality

We address a common criticism directed toward models of expressive voting that they are ad hoc in nature. To that end, we propose a foundation for expressive behavior that is based on a novel theory of social preferences under risk. Under our proposal, expressive considerations in behavior arise from the particular way in which risky social prospects are assessed by decision-makers who want to interpret their choices as moral. To illustrate the scope of our framework, we use it to address some key questions in the literature on expressive voting: why, for expressive considerations, might voters vote against their self-interest in large elections and why might such elections exhibit a moral bias. Specifically, we consider an electoral set-up with two alternatives and explain why, when the size of the electorate is large, voters may want to vote for the alternative they deem morally superior even if this alternative happens to be strictly less preferred, in an all-inclusive sense, than the other. Performance evaluation is an integral part of computer architecture research. Rigorous performance evaluation is crucial in order to evaluate novel architectures and is often carried out using benchmark suites. Each suite has a number of workloads with varying behavior and characteristics. Most analysis is done by analyzing the novel architecture across all workloads of a single benchmark suite. However, computer architects studying optimizations of specific microarchitectural components, require evaluation of their proposals on workloads that stress the component being optimized across multiple benchmark suites. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of FAB - a framework built with Pin and Python based workflow. FAB allows user-driven analysis of benchmarks across multiple axes like instruction distributions, types of instructions etc. through an interactive Python interface to check for desired characteristics, across multiple benchmark suites. FAB aims to provide a toolkit that would allow computer architects to 1) select workloads with desired, user-specified behavior and 2) create synthetic workloads with desired behavior that have a grounding in real benchmarks.
